C.A.T. (Cycle Adjustment Technique)
The CAT Lucid Dreaming Technique is performed by going to sleep at the same time every night, but waking up 90 minutes earlier than normal to perform reality checks, then alternate back to your normal wake time every second day to induce lucid dreaming.
You will find yourself performing your RC's (reality checks) during your final R.E.M. dream stage (90 minutes before you wake up) on the odd numbered days. This is similar to the W.B.T.B (Wake-Back-To-Bed) or the M.I.L.D Technique, but more powerful because you are doing RC's on even numbered days; during the time when you are usually having your final dream of the night. The chances of you having a False Awakening and then doing your normal RC's is quite high with the CAT induction technique.
How to Perform the Cycle Adjustment Technique for Lucid Dreams:
- Set a regular sleep schedule and stick to it. Then wake up 90 minutes earlier each morning for a few days to a week, or even longer (the longer the better).
- When you wake up do a few reality checks every couple of minutes for 90 minutes.
- Every second day (or odd numbered day) you should revert to your normal WT (wake time) so that you are now sleeping for the 90 minutes you are awake for on regular days (even numbered days).
- Eventually your reality checks will fail because you are dreaming while your trying them. If you make this a habit (by alternating days) you can have at least one lucid dream every second night 90 minutes right before you wake up (allowing easier dream recall; as opposed to remember a dream from 5 hours ago).
Additional Tips and Sources for the Cycle Adjustment Technique.
Tips:
- You should already have a set sleep and wake time and have decent dream recall, but neither is needed.
- Stay awake after your 90 minutes of RC's
- Try to lie still for a few moments and remember dreams right after your 90 minutes of RC's is complete--to help with dream recall
